Jen’s Favorite Family Activities to Celebrate the Season

When it comes to festive activities to get you in the spirit of the season, Morehead City is the place to be. Jen Beasley, owner of New Visage, has experienced many of the local activities firsthand with her own kids, Will and Molly, and has plenty of recommendations for residents of the Morehead City area. Check out Jen’s picks to get you in the full Christmas swing.

We Love a Parade!
The Morehead City Christmas Parade, sponsored by the Downtown Morehead City Revitalization Association, is the perfect way to kick off the holiday. The route begins downtown at the 1700 block of Arendell Street and includes plenty of floats, bands and community organizations. Santa Claus is the highlight of the parade, of course.

Gingerbread Weekend
The Gingerbread House Competition, Gala & Display is another annual tradition Jen and her kids look forward to. Held at the Crystal Coast Civic Center, this weekend event features gingerbread creations, Santa, cookie decorating, stories and plenty of cocoa. The formal gala is hosted one evening of the weekend with live music, food and drink and a chance to preview the gingerbread entries. Proceeds from all the events benefit the SECU Crystal Coast Hospice House.

Helping Those in Need
Jen and her kids love to embrace the true meaning of the Christmas season by participating in Project Christmas Cheer. This project helps provide Christmas gifts to local families in need. For 29 years, the organization has delivered toys, clothing and other necessities, all wrapped in festive boxes, to children throughout the area. Organizations and individuals can adopt families, children and elderly residents to ensure they have a Merry Christmas.

Counting Down to the New Year
Once the Christmas wrapping has been cleared away and the Christmas dinners eaten, Jen and her kids get into the spirit of the New Year with the Crystal Coast Countdown. Beginning on December 29, the event features events throughout Carteret County. Some of the activities include Morehead City Port tours, children’s activities, a golf tournament, a pirate plunge and the Crab Pot Drop on New Year’s Eve.

Morehead City boasts a wealth of festivities to get you in the mood for the holidays and Jen and her family have taken advantage of many of the fun activities around town this time of year. As the owner of the highly acclaimed med spa New Visage, Jen also knows the importance of looking and feeling your best during this busy time of year.
